Torque motors and harmonic gear reducers are both widely used transmission devices, but they are two different types of motors. They have some differences in working principle, application scenarios, and performance characteristics. What are the specific differences? Today, a harmonic gear reducer manufacturer will analyze the differences between torque motors and harmonic gear reducers for everyone. Let's take a look. A torque motor, also known as a torque motor, is a motor specifically designed to provide high torque output. A harmonic gear reducer manufacturer introduces that it is a special motor with soft mechanical characteristics and a wide speed regulation range. A torque motor belongs to a special motor with a large number of series. It can continue to operate even at low speeds or even stall (i.e., the rotor cannot rotate) without damaging the motor. In this working mode, the motor can provide stable torque to the load (hence the name torque motor).

The torque motor structure is a donut shape, divided into an outer rotor motor with the rotor in the outer ring and the stator in the inner ring, an inner rotor motor with the stator in the outer ring, and an inner rotor motor with the rotor in the inner ring. The harmonic gear reducer manufacturer reveals that because the outer rotor can generate larger torque under the same size, it is often used in outer rotor motors. Its main characteristic is that it can output a large torque in a short time, suitable for applications that require starting or driving large loads, such as lifting machinery, machine tools, textiles, wires and cables, metal processing, papermaking, rubber, plastics, and printing machinery. Torque motors usually use DC motors or asynchronous motors as the drive source, increasing the output torque by increasing the magnetic field strength or changing the winding connection method. Torque motors usually have a high torque-to-current ratio but a low speed and a small speed regulation range.

On the other hand, a harmonic gear reducer is a motor that adds a speed reducer to the motor output shaft. Its main function is to reduce the speed of the output shaft and increase the output torque. The harmonic gear reducer manufacturer tells you that harmonic gear reducers usually use DC motors, asynchronous motors, or stepper motors as the drive source. Speed reduction is achieved by using a speed reduction mechanism (such as gears, belts, worm gears, etc.). The reduction ratio of the harmonic gear reducer can be selected according to actual needs, providing output with various speeds. Harmonic gear reducers are suitable for applications that require precise speed control and high torque, such as automated equipment and robotic arms. From the application scenario, torque motors are more suitable for occasions that start or drive large loads, while harmonic gear reducers are mainly used in occasions that require reducing speed and providing larger torque. Torque motors can provide a large starting torque at the moment of starting and can quickly start heavy loads, while harmonic gear reducers use speed reducers to achieve output shaft speed reduction and increase output torque, suitable for applications that require precise control at higher speeds. In terms of performance characteristics, torque motors usually have a higher torque-to-current ratio, but their output speed is lower and the speed regulation range is small.
